On the day & equipment
What personal items should I bring?
A waterproof jacket is essential, along with warm clothing and perhaps a spare change in case of rain. Scotland’s weather can be unpredictable, even in summer, so being prepared helps you stay comfortable.
What clothing works best for the session?
Breathable layers are ideal, worn under chest waders. It’s useful to have additional layers you can remove if it warms up during the day, ensuring you can adapt quickly to changing conditions.
Can I use my own fishing gear?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own rods and reels as long as they meet fishery rules. If not, we can provide high-quality equipment free of charge, perfectly suited for Rainbow Trout fishing.
Do I need to wade?
Not necessarily. Much of Rainbow Trout fishing on still waters is done from the bank or jetties. Wading is optional and kept to shallow areas if you choose to try it, with guidance available at all times.
Is equipment available if I don't have my own?
Yes, all rods, reels, lines, flies, waders, and jackets can be supplied at no extra cost. Everything is prepared in advance, so you can simply arrive ready to enjoy the day.
Am I able to keep a Rainbow Trout?
Some still waters allow anglers to retain a limited number of trout, while others are strictly catch and release. Your guide will explain the rules for the fishery you’re visiting.
How good are the chances of catching fish?
Rainbow Trout are regularly stocked and provide consistent sport in most Scottish still waters. While nothing is certain, the chances are usually very good, especially with a guide to help.
Can non-anglers attend?
Yes, friends or family can join you. They’ll need to attend the safety briefing, and life jackets may be required in some locations. Extra charges can apply if additional equipment or support is needed.
Do I need to tip the guide?
Tipping isn’t mandatory, but it is common practice in Scotland as a way to thank your guide for their service and expertise. The amount is entirely at your discretion.
Can I take photos during the day?
Absolutely. Rainbow Trout are stunning fish and make for great photographs. Your guide can assist with pictures if needed, helping you capture lasting memories.
Are fishing permits included?
Yes. All permits and permissions are handled by Inspire Fishing and are included in your package price. Everything is arranged before your trip, leaving you to enjoy your fishing experience.
